Build It! Reclaimed Hanging Lantern

$50 – $160Learn how to safely use shop tools to cut and prepare reclaimed wood for small projects. In this course, participants will use the jointer, planer, table saw, miter saw, and other hand tools to cut joinery and prepare flat, straight components used in this unique custom hanging lantern. The lantern is designed with a 16’ cord and switch, which will hang from the ceiling and plug into a wall outlet.
Session 1: Tool & safety training, an introduction on selecting reclaimed wood for a project, and begin milling wood for frame and shade.
Session 2: Learn about joinery options, cut bridal joints for frame, glue up frame, and cut & sand lampshade pieces.
Session 3: Assemble the lampshade and install the lamp socket.
Session 4: Apply a clear finish, collect hardware, and make a plan to securely hang the lantern at home.
This class spans 4 days: Wednesday, January 8; Friday January 10; Wednesday January 15; Friday January 17. Program runs 5:00-8:00pm each day.
